How do I handle this tax situation?
So here's the deal: I've been paying for all of my parents expenses for a few years now (since 2006). However, I've never claimed the amount that I've paid on their property taxes (I've just been claiming my property taxes) and this year, I'm wondering if I can change that. So, here's the deal: our family has two properties, and I've been paying the taxes on them both. I hold the title and own one of the properties while the second one belongs entirely to my parents. However, I pay for all of their expenses (including their property taxes). So, can I claim this on my tax return under "other property" or is that going to raise a lot of red flags with the IRS? By the way, I'm using turbotax deluxe 2010 and that's where I saw the field, "Other Property."

I also need to add that this year however, my father paid for the taxes using a joint checking account that was under both my name and his name. Would that affect anything?
Yes you can deduct if you paid.
Your parents MAY also be your dependents! If they took in less than 7300 in total last year and you provide for more than half their suport...check into it!
