My mattress is sagging in the middle, could my split box spring be causing this?
I have a Serta mattress that is only about 4 years old that is sagging in the middle. A one piece box spring would not fit up our stairs so we got a split box spring -- could it be the source of the problem? It's a queen sized pillow top, no flip mattress.
When we do replace it, should the box spring be replaced as well?

It should still be under warranty, contact Serta. If it sags more than one inch, they should replace it. I assume you bought the mattress and box springs together. If not, it voids the warranty. It shouldn't sag like this after only four years, especially a no-flip mattress, unless you used different box- springs not made for that mattress.
Are you sure it is no-flip? Or, could it be a 'flip-if-you-want-to" mattress? They do exist but salespeople usually sell them as no-flip. If it has pillowtop on both sides, go ahead and flip it. Or, you could rotate it for better comfort.
I would definitely contact Serta if under warranty. The split box springs should not cause this, so long as they are Serta and made for your mattress. Always buy box springs and mattress together. Each mattress is built in a different way. You actually NEED the proper box springs to get the most life out of your mattress. Plus, the warranty again.
If you buy new, I suggest the Tempurpedic. It has a 20 year warranty, and they don't wear out. They also offer a trial period. If you don't like it you can send it back, no questions asked. They are, by far, best for your back and comfy. The drawback is that they are hard to get used to and expensive. They are not really that expensive, considering you get a long, long life out of them. You just have to pay more in the beginning.
